The signing of Damien Mori comes as a shock to not only the players and officials, but the fans as well. Central Coast wanted to keep him on for longer, but were not able as he would have been replacing a defender, and as a striker, was not able to do so.
Their loss. Our gain.
But for how long? Mori has been with four A-League clubs now. We're the fourth obviously. He started off with the Glory and his infamous wedding ring incident and has somehow made his way onto our books.
But although he might be pulling out the goals for the Coast recently, how long can he keep it up? He's already 36 for crying out load. That's practically ancient in the football world!!

I missed one. Perth, Central Coast and ? I think Adelaide etc was in the old NSL.
The way I think about this is that the problem for A-League teams is access to new players if your squad doesn't work or gets hurt. There is no concurrent division two. So if you sign temps then they haven't played for months now - and that was in their state division.
And next year if you want to change your squad - where do you go? OS. And well maybe that is a bit risky. They may take a while to settle in.
Plus, imagine if Alex Brosque had stayed with us? He was on a roll and he only comes off the bench. Some short cut to the socceroos eh?

Re: Mori. I think it's becoming a little bit of a joke - all this switching between clubs. Now, I understand it's due to the nature of the short-term contract, but really, it all seems rather silly.
Re: Brosque - it's a shame he's lost the plot while at Sydney. He finally sorted himself out at the end of last season, settled into the team and scored goals. His lack of playing time and lack of form these days is sad to see - I hoped the A-League would give some of the youngins a chance and a good grounding in competitive football. So that if they decide to head off overseas, they'd be competing to start each match, rather than to benchwarm. But I suppose the lack of opportunity to some is due to more experienced older players, such as Mori, being taken in by clubs.
